Why You Should Take A Hike

If you ever get a chance to go hiking or you’re thinking about it, then please go for it.

It’s a great way to stay physically active, all the while taking in the beautiful views of Mother Nature!

It’s known that people that go hiking go on trails or paths for a couple of hours or so, but it has been known to go on for much longer, I’m talking days or weeks.

The intensity of it all depends on the weather on the day, the temperature & the ruggedness of the ground.

Now you are maybe wondering what are the health benefits on going for a hike, you know compared with walking or running..

So down below I will explain all.

What Are The Hiking Benefits ?

Other than what I said above hiking has several other health benefits for weight loss.

If you go hiking for a few hours and the trail is steep, hiking will burn a significant amount of calories, no question.

I would also add that healthy eating is a great combo when hiking for much faster results, then eating junk up there which defeats the object of your hike no?

I mean if you do not have much free time to be doing this for hours each week, you don’t have to go the whole way!

This is most likely the hardest bit of ground you’ll walk on each week anyway, and you may not be able to get all the way there first time of asking.

In which case you’ll need to work your way to it if you cannot right?

So in the meantime you can always practice walking on the treadmill first or if you can make it, but you just can’t make it to the hike instead..

You can use the treadmill instead, which will help you when you do go for that hike.

Now some of you may say well I don’t have a treadmill or don’t want to go to the gym, well you can walk up hills and steep sidewalks.. You’re not off the hook!

If there is a will there is a way and I’m letting you know that it can be done with a lot or very little time.

When I compare Hiking to walking or being on the treadmill I noticed that you have a greater improvement of mood because of the views, more calmness and a drop in anxiety.

I mean I love walking don’t get me wrong and I’ll use the treadmill if I have to, but I love to run outside more!

It’s just hiking gives you a sense of accomplishment and you get to see..

Things you’d never see just walking on flat ground, the views cannot be beaten when it comes to hiking.. Walking takes the L on that one.

Hiking also builds up your lower body strength, which is so important when going up steep ground and maintaining your stride and avoiding getting injured on the hike.

This will improve your mobility and as you age you will see why this was a wise investment.

What About The Calories Though ?

I do not like to really talk about calorie numbers as it sends the Di1’s into meltdown, and we start focusing on the numbers over just getting started.

You should know that what you burn on the hike all depends on your weight.

It’s not a one size fits all kind of thing!

The steepness of the ground, the duration of your hike, the weight of your backpack  (As some walk with bricks you know in their backpacks) & temperature.

Hiking burns more calories than walking in general, and that’s just because of the steepness and the duration is so much longer in general.

But it burns fewer calories than running (Much to my delight)

If you really want to burn these calories work on fitting in all three in along with eating healthier, there is no limit to what you can lose if you stay on this path.

THAT’S IT!
