Why You Should Take 10,000 Steps Per Day

So I’m sure you must of heard the news about taking 10,000 steps for your health, but are you aware of why?

& more importantly the bigger picture in all of this really is??

I’m going to go through it with you all right now so you have some clarity on this.

The reason why they say everyone should take 10,000 step goals is because it works out to be roughly 5 miles each day.

Which includes half hour of daily exercise,  the only snag is 10,000 steps per day  does not make any sense.. freaking 10,000!  (I can hear y’all screaming that)

So unless you have a Fitbit or another tracker I suggest you get rid of that number from your mind and I’ll explain why in a bit.

First though the whole origin of walking 10,000 steps per day for our health all came from Japan, which also saw results of people there losing a lot of weight and it caught on worldwide.

Now Japan did not just make up 10,000 steps for the hell of it, it’s not some magic number either.. but what it is, is a great indicator of just how much activity you’re doing each and every day.

So how do we break this all down so it can help you if you actually want to walk 10,000 steps a day?

Well I’m not going to talk numbers of how much you need to burn or anything like that because one of two things happen..

 A) It’s taken too literal and you feel like you’ve failed if you don’t burn that amount every day, and then leads to you given up, depression or an eating disorder (Yeah Allow That)

B) The focus becomes more about hitting that number, which leads to over thinking, stress and binge eating or purging.. so now I’m ready to tell you to let the numbers go!

Get those numbers out of your mind and focus on what you  can do to get your steps in without having the 10,000 steps on your mind, because it’s not as hard as the number would suggest check this out..

If you decided to go all out and walk 10,000 steps in a day then that’s 5 miles & that’s a 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 37  minute journey, but a lot of you might not be able to commit to that every day but I’ve got you because.

An average work out session takes about 30 to 60 minutes right? Well it turns out that’s actually 3,000 steps on average, so then if you did that and just walked 2 miles that would only take you 30 mins per day so you see how much easier it has become now?!

Just to give you a sense of what will happen if you don’t walk 10,000 steps or you feel you haven’t done enough because I don’t want anyone to beat themselves up check this out..

If you sustain a walk or a run for 30 to 60 minutes walking, that actually equals the minimum daily exercise recommendation from most health experts/ authorities anyway, so if you miss a workout at least you’ve done the recommended daily exercise, and now let me talk about lazy days.. this is like on your worst day.

An inactive person takes 3,000 to 2,860 steps or a little lower just in their daily moving around the house, so if you’re stuck in the house all day and do nothing just know you’re still doing your bit, or it may encourage you to do a little workout at home, but the main point is not to worry or stress because you’re still burning.

Lastly for those of you that work in a place which involves you walking around a lot such as a tour guide, waitress or a nurse, you’ll find the amount of hours you’re working  you’re smashing 10,000 easy, and it’s more likely what you’re putting in your mouth that needs addressing more than anything else.

THAT’S IT!
