This Is Not The Hair Salon… Say No To Food Dye!

Over the last 50 years, artificial food dye consumption has increased by over 100% in the last 50 years!

With kids being top of the list for the biggest consumers of artificial food dye.

That’s from candy to sports drinks, it makes children hyperactive and causes serious side effects..

Like allergies and cancer.

Last week’s topic (Read More) seemed to spark this request to learn more so, below I will be talking more about it.

What Is It?

Food colouring is what I tend to call it, but for this headlines’ sake I’m calling it dye!

Food dye are chemical substances that enhance the appearance of food by giving it artificial colour.

1856 is the time when this first started, but they used coal tar ewwwwwww.

Nowadays, they may be using petroleum, but it’s still toxic, food manufactures prefer many times to use artificial food dyes over natural food colourings.

An example of this would be beta-carotene extracts, why ?  The colour in the fake ish provides a more vibrant colour.

The Artificial Dyes Used In Food (As Of When I Typed This!)

All these food dyes have been approved for use by both the EFSA & the FDA…

Red No.3 = This is cherry red colouring & you will see this in Popsicles and candy for the most part.

Red No. 40 = This is a dark red dye that is used in sports drinks, candy, fizzy drinks & sugary cereals. I may also add no. 40 can give you cancer, it’s top 3 for that out of the dyes.

Yellow No. 5 = Yellow in colour, like a lemon. It is found in chips, popcorn, certain cereals and soft drinks.

This again is top 3 dyes that can give you cancer.

Yellow No. 6 = It’s Ukraine yellow & it’s used in candy, baked goods & sauces.

This is the deadly trinity of food dye, once again can give you cancer.

Just to let you know in some countries these dyes are banned, and I would not be shocked to hear a change of heart and a ban coming…

However, that normal comes when there is a case that could come on the food industries head, in which case a lot of us become ill, or they find something that makes life easier for them, like cheaper or something that will make them more money, to hell with your health.

The Replacement For That Dye Job

So, now we are no longer consuming artificial food dyes, what do I replace it with ?

You need to shift the focus to real food. That’s eating whole and unprocessed foods, the more of that you eat, the better you will be.

Some examples to get you thinking below..

Eggs, milk, cheese (Does not have to be cow’s if you don’t want it to be!)

Fresh fruits & vegetables Nuts & seeds (Cashews, walnuts & almonds etc)

Grains (Quinoa, barley, brown rice & oats)

Legumes (Kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils & black beans etc)

Meat & poultry = Fish, chicken, beef & pork

You see there is a little something for everyone, no excuses for eating dye, save that for your hair & miss me with that No but…….. Karim not Kim!

THAT’S IT!

I really enjoyed sharing this with you guys.

Please do let me know though…
