Pumpkins are very popular in North America around Halloween and Thanksgiving time.
Itβs a part of the Cucurbitaceae family.. think Cucumbers, Watermelon & Butternut squash.
Whilst mostly thought of as a Vegetable, itβs actually a fruit!
It does after all, contain seeds.. that being said, the Nutritional value is more alike to a Vegetable than a fruit.
Other than it being really tasty to eat, Pumpkins are very nutritious and have many health benefits of course.
Today I will share with you, 4 great Di Nutrition and health benefits of pumpkins.
High In Antioxidants & Lowers Your Chances Of Getting Chronic Diseases
Pumpkins contain antioxidants such as Beta-carotene and Alpha-Carotene. These help stop free radicals from damaging our cells.
What are free radicals? They are molecules that are produced by our bodyβs metabolic process.
They do play a role in destroying harmful bacteria, although excessive free radicals in your body leads to chronic illnesses such as Cancer and Heart disease.
Lots Of Vitamins That Strengthen Your Immunity
Pumpkins are loaded with lots of nutrients that can help boost our immune system.
Like I said before itβs high in Beta-Carotene, which is good because our bodyβs turn that into Vitamin A.
Vitamin A strengthens our immune systems and helps fight infections. This is why people that have got Vitamin A deficiency get weaker immune systems.
Vitamin C is also high in pumpkins, which has been shown time and time again to boost white blood cell production, help immune cells to work properly and help our wounds to heal.
A Healthy Carb You Can Eat Lots Of
Pumpkins are very low in calories despite being packed with tons of nutrients.
Youβll find that Pumpkins are less than 50 calories per cup which is (245 grams) and is 94% Water.
So what Iβm getting at is Pumpkins are weight loss friendly and can be consumed often!
Lastly, they are a great source of fibre which can help you feel fuller for longer.
Lowers The Chance Of Getting Many Cancers
Cancer is a terrible illness that takes many lives.
Cancer cells produce free radicals to help them multiply quite rapidly.
Now Pumpkins as I said before, are high in Antioxidants, which stops the free radicals from spreading.. so this will help protect against certain types of Cancer.
The types of Cancers include Pancreas, Breast and Throat cancer.
Iβve read studies that suggest that itβs down to a specific Antioxidant called Carotenoids, but they are not sure.
I believe itβs more to do with your lifestyle and habits when consuming actual real food.. which includes Carotenoids rich foods, and less trash from your local fast food shop.
THATβS IT!
I really enjoyed sharing this with you guys. Please do let me know thoughβ¦
