They say that a boxers punch is hardest punch of all the punches in marshall arts, but this is not about
how to KO someone!
This is all about how to have boxing endurance.
In boxing you need endurance, as you will be moving around and throwing punches for 3 mins.
Although boxers have good reflexes and can move their feet quicker than the average Joe, it’s the endurance that forms the foundation of their training, those that have poor endurance normally come unstuck.
So if endurance is the foundation of your training, you’re going to need to know how to add this to your routine, right ?
Well, this is why you see boxers running miles and miles, on the treadmill as you need it for your reflexes, so you are not a sitting duck for your opponent to hit you right ?
It will also be a lot harder with no endurance to throw power punches, and accurate at that, once you start to tire.
Having your lungs increase capacity and a condition heart, is a dream for a boxer, so you too must work on those. So as I said running long distance, but also, what you might not know is that sprints help here too!
For a boxer you need to protect your joints, so always going for long runs, is not always wise, so you can sprint, as it requires less time and more intensity.
It also makes the exercise more versatile, which allows you to come up with more ideas, you can turn it into a HIIT also (High-intensity interval training) all you would have to do for that is use your stopwatch on your phone.
You can do jump rope, skipping, this is always to grow your cardio tank, this also helps boxers timing, footwork and coordination. More ways boxers use is exercise, body weight or weighted workouts.
For body weight workouts, your own body is the equipment, get yourself some space on the floor and workout, callisthenic workouts.
As for the weighted workouts, you do this to get your body stronger, your whole upper body and lower body can get stronger, that’s what you should aim for, you can get bigger too, but the bigger you get, the less cardio you will have, as you will start to fade, look what happened to A.J in his defeats to Usyk!
Lastly doing boxing itself, a great way to build up your stamina is to do actual boxing, go to the pads and work on combos, hit the bag until you tire.
I myself shadowbox, you can work on techniques and combos with shadow-boxing, you can work on your form and footwork.
THAT’S IT!
I enjoy sharing that with you all, let me know what you thought of this.
Until next time, ciao 🙂
