How To Get Longer Sleep In The Summer

Summer time is a hot one as we all know! So if you’re struggling to get your hours in, then this is for you.

Also, please share this with anyone you may know who is struggling to sleep well in these hot times.

 

Why Is It Harder To Sleep In The Summer?

Duhhhh it’s hotttt! Other than the obs we got… Increased daylight hours, Melatonin delay, Stress & Your lifestyle.

 

The increased daylight hours it contributes to more of you waking up in the night than at any other season.

 

Thus the longer the daylight hours the higher and more humid the temperature will be, which equals a difficult night’s sleep for you.

 

Delayed melatonin for those that don’t know, when it gets real dark our body clock signals it’s time for us to release of the hormone melatonin, when the sun comes up the melatonin stops so that the body can prepare for the day.

 

Because there is longer daylight hours in summer, the melatonin is shorter than in the winter, thus you’ll more than likely wake up earlier and sleep less in the summer.

 

 

Stress will keep you up, but you already knew that! We need to take our mental health seriously and show self-love to ourselves, make sure that we are not going to bed so stressed about life or angry at something or someone.

 

 

It’s something that should be worked on daily, it’s your mind after all! As left to just play out you may well lose your mind, I’ve seen it happen thousands of times & what I’ve learned is that all that stress is not worth it.

 

 

100 time out of 100 it won’t even matter in like a year or 5 anyway, so why waste your energy on thinking about negative things?

 

 Lastly Lifestyle! You will normally find because it’s hot we go to bed later, we eat later, drink later and some of you the drink I’m talking about is not a very healthy one.

 

This is not very good for our sleep patterns, which causes frequent stop, start wake up’s, going to the bathroom and just poor sleep. We tend to do more with more hours of sunlight, I get it… Just make sure you sleep well too.

 

How To Get The Rest You Need

Just like I always say about sleeping in gen, keep a consistent schedule when you sleep.

 

Late nights happen in life, that’s ok, but it should not be a routine… Because they are hard to break, 9 times out of 10 you should be in bed at the time you normally go!

 

When it’s dark you need to cut the lights out, or switch your lights from them yellow ones to ones that are supposed to be used at night which are Pink, Orange, Red etc… yellow is dead for your sleep, and it’s harder to sleep.

 

During the day keep the curtain shut, open your windows at night to let the cool air in.

 

If you have AC of course use it, use a fan, drink your water and stay hydrated.

 

 

Learn also how to relax yourself, all this stress you learnt from the west has got to stop!

 

This will really help you get a better night of sleep, and stop you from being stressed.

 

 

Take your time, it’s hot there is no point of rushing, get your mind right before you dive into work.

 

 

Relax, breath, take time for yourself, smile… smell your food, taste it, don’t just go through the motions… A lot of pain comes during life, don’t make everyday life be such a grind… I know you can do it!

 

 

Make sure your bedroom is dark too, it’s where you are going to sleep, so make it peaceful and relaxing. Play music that makes you relaxed, cut the lights that are no good for you and chill. Lastly, pick up good sleeping habits!

 

 

The more of these habits you pick up, the better your sleep will become and for longer as the days go on.

 

 

Why? As it’s a habit and habits are bad to break, it could be getting into meditation before bed, reading a book, doing bedtime yoga poses, noting down what you are grateful for just doing something good and repeat it… These are all positive sleeping habits.
