How Do I Stay Healthy But Reduce My Carbon Footprint?

So I got a lot of requests for this since the cOP26 took place, as I gathered the Di1’s are seeking to reduce their impact on the earth, to stop the terrible climate change that is killing the earth and us, bit by bit.

So one of the ways is to lower your carbon footprint, this is measured in the total sum of greenhouse gas emission, electric & driving vehicles.

I believe this fits into lifestyle choice real nice, as these are changes that will affect your life, from how you do things now.

It’s a very deep topic & even down to the cloths you wear is important, but to keep this one on topic I’m talking about food changes…

As this is a great place to start lowering your carbon footprint, rather than feeling helpless or guilty.

Don’t Eat in Excess

This is bad overall as you will end up gaining weight and getting sick.

It also has an impact on the greenhouse gas emissions as it’s more food you’re gathering.

Where I find the problem is coming from is excess of trash food such as fast food, chocolate bars, candy, fizzy drinks etc.

Just by cutting those poor eating habits out, you’re doing yourself and the planet a favour…

Plus giving you & the planet more life.

Eating in excess is never a great choice & I just hope that if you do eat that way, you can stop doing so over time.

Stop Wasting Food

This is something that is so annoying and really needs to be spoken about.

Food waste is a big contributor to green house gas emissions, as food that is being wasted and thrown away decomposes are landfills, and it gives off methane, which is a greenhouse gas (Not good).

Methane has been predicted to be even worse for us than carbon dioxide when it comes to global warming, the worst part is when the food is fresh and nothing wrong with it, and it’s been thrown away…

We normally see this in the food industry, think shops and restaurants, but of course in households it happens too.

Cutting out food waste is an easy way to start reducing your carbon footprint right away.

This is where planning meals the night before, saving food as leftovers when full & purchasing only the food that you need will go a long way for the earth.

Cut Back On Dairy

These dairy products such as milk & cheese is another way to help cut your carbon footprint.

This is the second-largest issue with individual greenhouse gas emissions, with meat being at the top of the list…

Now you can reduce your meat too, I did not put this one on here, as I know it’s been well played out already on other sites.

It takes so much milk to make cheese, this is why it has a high amount of greenhouse gas emissions than an animal like pork & chicken etc.

So I would suggest that you eat less cheese, replace dairy milk with a plant based one if you drink dairy such as Almond or soy milk.

 Eat More Fibre

Good thing I always talk about eating more fibre in our meals, huh?

Not only does it improve our health, but it also reduces your carbon footprint.

Fibre foods lower greenhouse gas emissions, that’s fibre rich plant foods…

These foods keep you fuller for longer, helps your gut bacteria, aids weight loss, fights chronic diseases like heart and cancers etc.

Cut Out Plastic

We all need to be using less plastic, as I’m sure a lot of you know by now.

Plastic wrapping, plastic bags etc is commonly used by the food industry, all that shipping and storage of food is hurting the planet.

Just one single use of plastic is a major factor in greenhouse gas emissions.

If we can start using bags for life and not buying the plastic bags, drink from reusable water bottles, stop buying bottled water, store food in glass containers, purchase less takeout food as most of the time it’s in Styrofoam or plastic, which is bad…

We can help in that area, and cut the carbon footprint down by quite a lot.

Buy Local

When you buy local, you’re eating fresh, and you are reducing your carbon footprint.

This lowers your need to have food transported from a long distance and will increase your intake of fruit and veg and water.

This will help fight your carbon emissions, I have another reason too. This will get you into seasonal eating, as you can only eat what is organic and in season, and cuts down on your footprint.

Out of season food is normally imported you see, it takes more energy to grow as it’s out of season.

THAT’S IT!

I really enjoyed sharing this with you guys.

Please do let me know though…

How Much Do You Even Care About Your Carbon Footprint?

Which One Will You Do First?

Are You Using Your Bags For Life & How Is That Going For You?

  Until We Meet Again, Ciao

We Look Up
