Healthier Foods To Start Eating In December

December is here and I’m sure most of you who are celebrating Christmas will be shopping for the traditional foods associated with it, such as Turkey/Ham, Stuffing, Carrots, Brussels sprouts etc.

On the other hand no doubt, there will be many of you who will purchase such trash as Pudding, Cookies, Candy and other binned delicacies that have captivated you and left you unhealthy in the process.

So this got me thinking; wouldn’t it be great to share with you healthier food that isn’t really spoken about in December? (Or just not as much as the ones listed above)

Oh and the added incentive was each one of these foods listed is at its freshest in December.. Let’s check them out now!

Oysters- If you’ve ever tried Oysters in both the Summer and the Winter you’ll know winter ones win hands down. It’s actually peak time in December, although Oysters are more summer associated and with the notion of yourself cooling off from the sunshine.

So if you’re eating out this December don’t be surprised to see it on the menu. Although if you’re buying them yourself then make sure the distributor is  trustworthy, the Oysters themselves are clean, stored properly like on ice and is labeled with the dates and where it came from.. if there is none ask someone.

DID YOU KNOW?: Oysters in the winter have to be eaten within 10 days or you’ll be very sick, where as in the summertime it’s a week.

Chestnuts- Yes that old Chestnut is traditional food to buy in December, but I don’t know anyone personally who follows that tradition and actually buys them.. they may seem very average nut, which I’ve always said on here, apart from people who have nut allergies  it’s well recommend you consume more nuts  than you already do (Click Here) it turns out that it’s not the case at all.  Chestnuts have many health benefits such as.. preventing diabetes and other chronic illnesses, Improving your heart health and brain function.

Butternut Squash- Again is well known to be eaten around December time, I just don’t see it on many people’s plates in general at this time of year. This makes a great replacement for potatoes if you’re like  many of my Di1’s or my brother who is  sick of the taste of potatoes.  So if that sounds like you then Butternut squash is the “thang” right about now. It can be cooked in many ways such as Roasted, Peel and boiled, Baked and Grilled.. plus has health benefits such as Bone strength, Reduces Inflammation and  aids Weight Loss.

Clementine- The go-to fruit for Christmas and for those of you who have a sweet tooth, this is the healthy solution. I also like the fact they are portable because of the skin, and are mostly seedless. They can be added to salads which give it an extra kick and boost to your health. The health benefits of Clementines include Healthy skin, Brain function and boost immunities.

Kale- Vegetables need to be eaten daily so if you’re not eating them daily (Click Here) Now we hear a lot about Brussels Sprouts this time of year but Kale is also at its peak in December. Kale is packed with Vitamin C & A and K,  High in Iron, Packed with antioxidants, Anti – Inflammatory and high in Calcium. Quite the superfood, eh?  So again if you’re sick of or just never liked being forced fed Brussels Sprouts I recommend Kale instead.

Sweet Potatoes- Which are very healthy for you and I encourage you to eat more of these this December. The health benefits of Sweet potatoes are Vitamin C, D & B6, Plenty of Iron, Magnesium & Potassium and  Prevents Chronic diseases. It can be cooked in many different ways to your personal taste, and they are another versatile food with super health benefits.

THAT’S IT!

I really enjoyed sharing this with you guys.  Please do let me know though…

I’ve been struggling because of all the temptation surrounding me. I have had some sweets and cakes, but in general my fruit intake out weighs them.
