6 Benefits Of Almond Milk

I’ve spoken about Dairy milk before so if you missed that then (Click Here) Β

Now by popular demand I’m covering Almond milk!

Though not very common, Almond milk has been used for years as a substitute for Cow’s milk. You can of course buy it at the shops, but you can also make it at home at your own convenience via soaking the Almonds overnight in water and then rinsing them.. You would then blend the Almonds in fresh water, then filter the mush using a fine strainer then it’s ready to be consumed.

Almonds have been proven to contain extra nutrients along with the various vitamins and minerals that Dairy milk has. This is the reason Almond milk is highly recommend as a good option for those who do not consume any sort of dairy products, and those that have intolerances & allergies.. Vegans also.

So now I will share with you 6 benefits of Almond milk.

Hardly Any Sugar

The Almond milk that is unsweetened is very low in sugar and is better for you then the sweetened one.

One cup of Almond milk contains only 1-2 grams of carbohydrates; 1 cup of Dairy milk contains 13 grams of carbohydrates, most of which is sugar.

It’s important to mention that the shop version of Almond milk is mostly sweetened and flavored with added sugars. It contain 6-17 grams of sugar per cup.

So be sure to check the nutrition label and ingredients list for added sugar, if you have no clue on how to read a nutritional label then (Click Here)Β

High In Vitamin E

Almonds are just naturally very high in Vitamin E, providing 37% of your daily Vitamin E requirements in just 28 grams (1 ounce).

Though this has not stopped manufacturers adding extra Vitamin E when processing. For example one cup Almond milk provides 20 -50% of your daily Vitamin E requirement, whereas dairy milk contains no Vitamin E at all.

Vitamin E is has antioxidant and that fights against stress and inflammation in our bodies. It also helps protect against Heart disease and Cancer, and has positive effects on our eye and bone health.

Vitamin E has been found to be very beneficial to our brain health too. It reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and improves mental performance Β when taken regularly.

You’re Still Getting Your Calcium!

Milk and other dairy products are of course great sources of Calcium in many people’s lives. One cup of whole milk provides 28% of your RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) intake.

Now if we compare Almonds, it only has a small amount of Calcium, just 7% of the daily requirement.

So because Almond milk is the usual replacement for dairy milk, manufacturers have enriched it with Calcium to ensure people are not missing out on their Calcium.

Calcium is a very Β important mineral for our bones, it also helps reduce the chances of us getting fractures and osteoporosis.

Calcium is also important for the functioning of the heart, muscles and nerves.

One cup of Almond provides 22-45% of the recommended daily intake of Calcium.

If you are making your Almond milk at home and are worried about the lack of Calcium you’re better off finding another source for you Calcium such as Fish, Seeds, Legumes, Leafy greens, Cheese and Yogurt to name a few.

Lactose-Free Baby

Lactose intolerance is a condition in which people are unable to digest lactose, that’s the sugar in the milk.

It is caused by a deficiency in lactase, the enzyme that’s responsible for breaking down lactose into a more digestible form. This deficiency may be caused by genetics, aging or certain medical conditions.

Intolerance can cause a variety of uncomfortable symptoms, including stomach pain, bloating and gas (Uh oh)

Lactose intolerance is estimated to affect up 75% of people worldwide. Apparently this hits the continents of Β Β South America, Africa and Asia the most with 50-100%.

It goes without saying that because it is lactose-free, Almond milk is Β a great alternative for people who cannot drink dairy due to being lactose intolerant.

No Dairy & Vegan Friendly

Many people choose to avoid dairy milk for Health, Religious, Environmental Β or lifestyle choice.. like Veganism.

Since Almond milk is fully plant-based, it is perfect for all these groups and can be used as a replacement of dairy milk on its own.

Almond milk is free of all the proteins that cause milk allergies in adults.

I’m also aware that Soy milk has been a traditional alternative to dairy milk for adults, but up to 14% of people who are allergic to dairy milk are also allergic to Soy milk. So for that reason Almond milk provides the perfect alternative to switch to.

However I must add, Almond milk is very low in Protein that can be digested compared to Dairy milk, it’s not a very good idea to replace dairy milk with Almond milk for infants or younger children with Milk allergies, Instead they will most likely require a specialized formula from your doctor.

Easy Addition To Your Meals

It’s very simple, Almond milk can be used in any way that dairy milk can be used.

So below are just some examples of how simple it is to add Almond milk..

As a nutritious drink.

Put into your Oats or Cereal for Breakfast.

In your Tea, Coffee or Hot chocolate.

In cooking or baking something.. all healthy of course!

In soups & dressings.

It can put in your homemade Almond Yoghurt.
